Did you know the idea of the artificial moon was the first to come from a French artist who imagined hanging necklace made up of the mirror above the earth? Before this Russia too made an experiment by potting a huge mirror in the orbit to reflect light from the sun to the earth in 1993. As both their efforts did not yield desired results, now China has planned to develop an artificial moon to light up its sky during the night. This so-called “illumination satellite” would orbit above the Chinese city of Chengdu and glow in conjunction with the actual moon and shine eight times brighter. If successful, the project will provide a major boost to the field of technology and open more doors for other countries.
